The Second Annual Pelican Plunge

In case you missed it, more than 200 lunatics went swimming in the waters off Hunting Island State Park on New Year's Day. This is not necessarily a Polar Bear plunge, but, trust me, the wind whips pretty good off the Atlantic this time of year, and water temperatures are in the low 50s. So it's cold. If you would like to see some of Beaufort's wildest and craziest in action, click here. . The event is sponsored by Friends of Hunting Is… Continue

Sweatin' Bullets in December

I've been sweatin' bullets all day. Not because of any undue stress, or a lingering deadline. I'm sweatin' bullets, because it's warm in Beaufort, SC -- 73 degrees!! During the Civil War, our little town served as one of the main ports for the U… Continue

EXPERIENCE ONE OF BEAUFORT'S MOST HISTORIC SPOTS THIS MONTH.....FOR FREE

The John Mark Verdier house, home to more than 200 years of history, has been opened for free tours in December. There is usually a cost associated with visiting and touring the home. The Verdier house, located on Bay Street, is one of our little town's true treasures. Built in the late 18th Century by local merchant John Mark Verdier, the home provided… Continue
