Beaufort Chamber Closer to Acquiring New Location

The Beaufort Chamber of Commerce is looking to move into a new location in the months ahead. The city of Beaufort close to inking a 99-year lease which would allow the chamber to use the historic downtown Arsenal building as its headquarters. The Arsenal is located on Craven Street, near the intersection of Carteret Street.
The Chamber is currently housed in an old house on Bellamy Curve, the 90-degree bend in the road which turns Boundary Street into Carteret Street, and visa versa. The Arsenal is a fascinating building, dating back to 1798. At one time, the Arsenal was home to the Beaufort Volunteer Artillery, which has roots dating back to 1776. The Arsenal building in downtown Beaufort could hold a new visitors center and office space for the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce as early as next spring, officials said Monday.
